Maze - Digital Administration

The Maze measure can be administered digitally to a whole class, a small group of students, or an individual student. The test administrator can use a computer or touchscreen device (tablet-size or larger), and each student will need their own computer (laptop/desktop) or touchscreen device (iPad, tablet, or Chromebook). 

Prepare Students for Maze Administration

Have students prepare by opening a browser window on their individual device and navigating to https://alo.acadiencelearning.org. In the top right corner click “Student Login.”

The students will see the Student Login Code screen. Instruct them to wait here for the next direction.

Maze Digital Assessment – Assessor Set Up

Log into ALO, click on the Assess tab in the top right corner.

You can use the filter to select a specific school and/or class (for users with school/district-wide access). Ensure you have either Benchmark or Progress Monitoring selected, depending on what you are assessing.

When assessing a group of students use the “Group Assessment” option for Maze and click “Launch.”

If prompted, select which grade level of students you want to assess – students in grades K-6 or students in grades 7-8. Note: if you do not have students in both grade bands the option to choose will not be displayed.

You will see a list of available students displayed. Select only those students who will be completing the assessment and click “Confirm Students.” You can skip ahead to the “Student Login Code” section below.

If you are assessing an individual student, select the student from the list, and select the Maze Measure.

Student Login Code

When all students are on the Student Login Screen and the assessor has confirmed the list of students, at the top of the window click “Get Student Login Code.” Note: the code expires after 60 minutes.

Provide the 4-digit Student Login code to the students. They will enter the code on their device.

Have the students select their name from the dropdown list.  Once their name is selected they will click “Start.”

Students will remain on the “Wait Here” screen until you provide them with the next instruction.

As students enter the code and select their name, ALO will update to show which students are ready to proceed. All selected students must log in with the code before you can proceed with the assessment. Note: if a student is included on the list and does not log in you will have to restart from the beginning, selecting only those students who will be completing the assessment. The button to continue with administration will not appear until every student on the list is logged in.

Maze Administration

Once all students have logged in the “Next: Maze Rules” button appears. Click “Next: Maze Rules” to proceed.

The Reminders and Wait Rules for Maze are displayed. You can scroll through the rules or skip them to proceed to administering the assessment.

You will then tell students to click the arrow at the bottom of their screen.  Proceed to read the directions verbatim to students and walk them through the practice activity. Continue reading the remaining directions to prompt students to begin the assessment. Once you reach the end of the directions you will have the option to review the reminders or to close Maze.  Clicking “Close Maze” will not interfere with the student assessment.

Students will complete the assessment on their devices. When time is up, ALO displays the “Maze Complete!” message. Students will click the arrow to return to the log in page. Assessment results are available immediately in ALO data views.
