What is Acadience Reading Pre-K: PELI?

Acadience Reading Pre-K: PELI is a storybook-embedded assessment of essential pre-literacy and oral language skills needed for kindergarten. The assessment is designed to identify children who are experiencing difficulties acquiring these skills with intent to provide the instructional support needed to improve future reading outcomes. PELI is designed for preschool and prekindergarten students (ages 3-5) and measures alphabet knowledge, vocabulary and oral language, phonological awareness, and listening comprehension. 

By design, the Acadience Reading Pre-K: PELI measures are brief, powerful indicators of foundational early literacy skills that:

  • are quick and efficient to administer and score;
  • serve as universal screening (or benchmark assessment) and progress monitoring measures;
  • identify students in need of intervention support; 
  • evaluate the effectiveness of interventions; and
  • support the RtI/Multi-tiered model.
